With the Sharks out of the playoffs earlier than expected, I was wondering what might they do to improve in the offseason? One of the more popular rumors is Marleau might get traded. I think thats not going to happen since Marleau is a) team captain and b)for the most part a proven playoff sniper.

I think their biggest need is to trade away a goalie for help on defense. With the youngsters, JT, and Captain Marleau , the Sharks are very deep in forward talent. Wilson might finally deal one of his goalies for need elsewhere. I think they should deal Nabakov for high picks and then sign a FA defenseman (like Rafalski or Timmonen) who can play the PP. If they deal Toskala instead, it will be harder to fit a quality defenseman under the cap unless they get a young defenseman in return, which is unlikely (perhaps Phoenix would trade Michalek or Ballard for Toskala? doubtful, but maybe).

Guerin was a bust and Rivet was a godsend.

Hannan is also going to walk for more money elsewhere.

Doug Wilson damn well better sign Rivet. He became an instant favorite here, of mine and others.

D definitely needs huge help, more notably from an offensive veteran.

Let Guerin go, sign Rivet, and trade Toskala for a top left wing (Bell was a bust) and trade Ehrhoff (has value due to youth) to an aging team for a veteran puck-moving D-man and pick up another from free agency with the extra cap room left from Malakhov being off the books and the cap raising.

And... of course... FIRE RON WILSON!
