The Stanley Cup, originally a decorative bowl forged in Sheffield, England but purchased from London silversmith G.R. Collis and Company (now Boodles and Dunthorne Jewelers), worth ten guineas ($48.67 USD), was donated in 1892 by Lord Stanley, Governor General of Canada, who had become enamoured with ice hockey. To Answer your question:
Gretzky beat Vancouver Canucks goaltender Glen Hanlon to score his first NHL goal on a power play at 18:51 of the third period. 1979-1980 season (assuming your talking about his first NHL goal ever?)
I also read that he scored at age six playing on a 10 & under team but I don't know what team he played for or if it was his first ever. Doubt it.

I prefer NHL.com to wikipedia when it come to sources.
Well Belfour I have heard that figure other places including on a Stanley Cup special on TV the other night so I believe it to be accurate. Sometimes it pays to do a little research and not just believe a single source.
The gold-lined, silver bowl was ready for the 1892-93 season. (Stanley paid for it out of his own pocket. It cost him $48.67.) Initially called the Dominion Challenge Cup, it soon took the name of its donor.
Lord Stanley had an aide purchase the trophy for 10 guineas ($48.67 at that time) in London for presentation to the amateur hockey champions of Canada. Since 1910, when the National Hockey Association took possession of the Stanley Cup, the trophy has been the symbol of professional hockey supremacy.
