Some NHL rumors

Quote:
Rolston heads into the Wild

After two career years with the Minnesota Wild, there's a chance Brian Rolston could be on the Detroit Red Wings or some other team a year from now. Rolston is one of nine Wild players who can become unrestricted free agents next summer.

GM Doug Risebrough won't comment, but he has had no contract talks with Rolston even though Rolston and teammate Pavol Demitra sit atop the next tier of free-agent forwards after stars Dany Heatley (Ottawa) and Marian Hossa (Atlanta).

I know I would hate to see Rolston go but if it's the way it works out, that's the way it works out I guess.

Cujo may be Ottawa's plan B

The Ottawa Senators have quietly expressed some interest in Curtis Joseph as a backup goaltender should they be able to find a home for Martin Gerber and his $3.7-million US contract.

Naslund's NHL days may be numbered

It does not take a mathematician to determine that the days of Markus Naslund as a member of the Vancouver Canucks are drawing to a close.

The 34-year-old is on the last year of a contract that will pay him $6 million this season and understandably there have been no discussions about a contract extension.

"I've been getting a lot of pressure this summer from my team in Sweden [MoDo] to play a season back there," Naslund said.

RE: Some NHL rumors

I can't see Naslund moving back to Sweden to play for MoDo, regardless of whether or not the Canucks re-sign him.

RE: Some NHL rumors

It seems to be more common for the Swedes to talk about going back to play for their old club teams. About 5 or 6 years ago Lidstrom was planning to go back but ended up signing with the Wings again.

Has any name player actually followed through with it though? I know Forsberg is thinking about staying in Sweden, but again, it remains to be seen as to whether or not he will.

RE: Some NHL rumors

Seems like they talk about it but not many follow through. Nicklas Sundstrom who has played over 800 NHL games and is only 32 just signed back in Sweden, not sure if that was a choice or if he had no options to play in the NHL. The only other one I could find was Hakan Loob back in 1989 he left the NHL to go back to Sweden after 6 seasons in which he averaged close to a point per game.
Lidstrom was talking about it in 1998 because he wanted his kids to grow up in Sweden and there is not nearly as much travel or as many games.

As for the Sens getting Joseph, I'm sure he would be a capable back-up for Emery but I don't know where Gerber might be going.

The Kings put Cloutier on waivers (finally). He's been nothing but a sieve for them.
