TRADE-Rivet for Gorges MTL&SJ
TO
Gorges
1st rounder
TO
Rivet
5th rounder
MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal Canadiens have traded away the longest-serving player on their roster.
The Habs sent defenceman Craig Rivet and a future fifth-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for defenceman Josh Gorges and a first-round pick in this year's draft.
Rivet is a 12-year veteran and has played 692 games in a Canadiens uniform. He has 39 goals and 112 assists in his regular-season career.
Rivet was slated to become a free agent this summer.
Gorges, 22, is currently playing in his second season. He has a goal and three assists in 47 games this season.

RE: TRADE-Rivet for Gorges MTL&SJ
I think Montreal did a good trade, because Rivet is on the downside of his career, and I think Streit can play his role, and much better. Getting a first pick in return was surprising to a lot of people.

I hate when that happens, a guy who's done so much for the team
you shouldn't trade players because they're not playing like they used to do. besides that experience sometimes is more important then skill
The goal is not a goal, nor is it not 'not a goal.'
Knowing is the key,
and all logical or conceptual efforts are ego manifestations

RE: TRADE-Rivet for Gorges MTL&SJ
I like and I don't like this tade. As a habs fan, I find it a little bit sad for RIvet to be traded beacuse he played for 12 seasons here. He was such a great leader in the team. On the ice, he was not the best, but in the locker room, what a man! But, unfortunately for him, Gainey had to sign a lot of players this summer like Souray and Markov. I think that that he wanted to keep his best players. We couldn't keep Rivet at 2-2,5 million next season. So, at least, we received a 1st round pick and a great young player that look like at Rivet on the ice.

Now atleast Rivet has a chance at winning the cup. It's sad to say but I don't think the Habs are much of a contender this year. He's been in the league for 12 years it's about time he has a chance.
LET'S GO!!!!
