The Next Great Goalie?

Who do you think is the best goalie not playing in the NHL right now? You can include all the goalie prospects who haven't played more than 20 NHL games. Personally, I think the most NHL ready prospect is Josh Harding. I don't know his talent level compared to guys like Rask, Pavelic, or Price, but I think Harding is pretty good and will be a regular on the Wild next season.

I would say Justin Pogge, Casey Price or Tuka RAsk. They all prove that they are ready to play in the NHL this season with theirs teams and in the world junior championship.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?

I dont think Pogge would be the next great NHL goalie but he will be good when he gets into the league... I hope T.O trades him  to maybe... off the top of my head... Ottawa! Mml

But seriously, Pogge will be good wereever he plays... Even if it is in T.O.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?

I agree that Pogge probably won't be a top tier goalie. I'm just kind of curious what happens with Al Montoya and Pogge. Both guys are talented prospects, but will end up in someone else's shadow (Lundqvist and Rask) who are just as young as they are. I think that they won't get a chance to be a #1 goalie until their late 20's.

Umm yes Rask was great in the world junoirs, but hey was he on the winning team? lol, Rask im sure would be a big help for toronto, but I can't see him being anymore than a Tommy Salo. Pogge on the other hand, he's Canadian!! Keep him in TO as the number 1. I'm sure with the support he will get there he can become a top notch goalie.

Thanks for the scouting report, Don Cherry. Rofl1
Is there any other comment you want to make about Europeans? Is Kiprusoff only as good as Salo? Can you remind me who were the top 3 teams in the Olympics this past year? Sweden, Finland, and the Czech Rep. all won medals while Canada watched at home. But I guess guys like Naslund, Selanne, and Jagr will never be as good as their Canadian NHL teammates like Bertuzzi, McDonald, and Rucchin.

/the more you know... Albert

RE: The Next Great Goalie?

1. Toivonen (played exactly 20 NHL games), 2. Rask or 3. Pogge.

Toivonen is similar to Rask, just closer because he's older.

Rask has it all, just needs time to put it together (which he is) and get a good shot at the NHL.

Although Pogge has proved some doubters who claimed he relies on a good team in front of him, I can only see him as a average starter.

No no, its not like that I know there is great European players...Jagr and Selanne are like in my top ten for favorite players, I'm just saying, I can't see Rask becoming much in Toronto, especially if they are going placing Pogge as the back-up. I mean Pogge is Canadian, and he would get a lot more support than Rask would get i'd think. I was really suprised over the fact that the Calgary fans accepted Kipper, then again, he was pretty wicked the past two seasons..so who wouldn't?

RE: The Next Great Goalie?

your suprised calgary accepted kipper?... most people dont care where the players are from...just how they preform and who they are on and off the ice... and if rask plays better then pogge im sure people in toronto will support rask, people wouldint support the lesser of 2 goalie's just because hes canadian...
