RE: The Next Great Goalie?
I looked into it and the comparison is based on their mental make-up.
“I kind of compare him to a guy like Cam Ward,” team play-by-play commentator Keith Gerhart said. “Just the things Ward seems to be doing. I think Leland has some of the same attributes. They don’t seem to get down, they’re intelligent goalies and pretty resilient.”
Nothing about style of play, just how they handle the pressure.

I think that Marek Schwarz can be great goalkeeper - thats what STL need!!
Unless he changed alot from when he played for the Giants, I doubt that.
I'm thinking Rask will be the next one, making JF in Toronto look like an idiot once again...

Ya, I think Rask for Raycroft was a terrible trade. Can you imagine the Finnish duo the bruins could have in a few years? Toivonen and Rask will be nuts. What's ever worse is that he made the trade within his teams division. He's just helping stock the bruins goaltending department. JFJ is an idiot for sure. Should've been him fired and not Quinn.

My exact thoughts. I actually meet Quinn about once a year now.
One would eventually be traded, but there future in net looks bright. He should have just signed Legace instead for immediate goaltending help.
And don't forget JS Aubin, he played pretty well near the end

Ya, I'm not sure what they plan on doing with Aubin now. They've got Raycroft as starter and that leaves Tellqvist and Aubin to battle it out for the back up spot I guess.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
Rask is brilliant, but that wasn't a bad trade. The Leafs needed immediate goaltending help and down the road it would make no sense for the Leafs to have Rask and Pogge.. it was just a matter of time before one was traded so why not make the move now and get a goalie who is NHL ready? If Raycroft played like he did before the lockout, then JFJ will look like a genious coming out of that deal. I still don't see why no one has simply signed Legace... I agree that might have been the best option.
Aubin = Tim Thomas. Both played as well as you could have asked them to, but unfortunately they will see very little ice time next season, under 20 games without a doubt.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
Are you sure Raycroft brings immediate help? I'm not as confident in that as you are. He was awful last year. One good year isn't enough to establish him as a steady starter. This trade could blow up in their faces if he has another year like last year.

Yeah, I hear you. I don't know either but considering how Belfour played last season and how Ferguson has patched up their defense, I'm confident that Raycroft will do fine with the Leafs, good enough for a playoff spot if nothing more. Rask wouldn't be of service to the Leafs right away.. it'll all work out for everyone. No worries.
