RE: The Next Great Goalie?
I agree that Andrew too, Raycroft is a big improvement over Belfour and he will lead the Leafs far into the playoffs. Rask will most likely turn out to be far better then Raycroft, but sometimes you have to sacrifice a little of the future to get immediate results.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
There is no disputing the Raycroft is a huge upgrade over Belfour. But as for the young goalies playing well now I would have to say Ryan Miller is one of the best.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
Why does everyone say Miller is so great. He's OK but not great. The only reason he's any good this year is because; look at the team skating in front of him.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
Miller is a good goalie and went deep into the playoffs but does look a lot better because of the team in front of him. The forwards have the puck most of the time and are in the other teams end for the majority of games. Miller is at the top of the league in wins and losses but is 15th and 16th in GAA and save% and is 17th in saves.

That's what I mean. The reason why he's leading in wins and losses is because of his team. His stats are not that great even though his team is having a great start.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
5 pages and no ones mentioned my favorite young goalie - Jimmy Howard.

I've never even heard of him.
Just looked him up, looks like he was good last year in the AHL and had some decent seasons playing for Maine. I don't see much reason to include him in the Next Great Goalie thread, he hasn't made any kind of impact in the league yet.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
I definetely think Miller is overrated. Sure, he's good but as mentioned above it's somewhat a product of the team skating ahead of him. I think the top two goaltending prospects in the league right now are without a doubt Kari Lehtonen and Cam Ward.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
I don't think you can say it is those two without a doubt. I think Fleury is the best young goalie in the league right now along with Ray Emery. Emery and Fleury both have better numbers in the GAA and Save % than Ward or Lehtonen.

RE: The Next Great Goalie?
Fleury hasn't really impressed me in the past but this could be his year playing behind a much improved squad. Emery is a bit older too and I don't see him having as high an upside as Lehtonen and Ward. I feel they are the two young goalies leading the pack. Miller is in there too though he's older.
