Toews signs 3 year contract
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=Ar...;type=lgns
CHICAGO (AP) -- First-round draft pick Jonathan Toews signed a three-year, entry level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old center, a standout at North Dakota, scored two goals and added five assists for gold-medal winning Canada at this year's world junior hockey championships. Toews was one of the youngest members of the team that won the tournament the past two years.
"I was very impressed with the way he played in the world championships," Blackhawks coach Denis Savard said of the No. 3 overall pick in last year's NHL draft. "Jonathan is a heart-and-soul kid. He looks like he's been very well coached. He is a solid two-way player with lots of skill."
Toews played in 34 games this season, his second at North Dakota, scoring 18 goals and adding 28 assists. The Fighting Sioux advanced to the semifinals of NCAA tournament before losing to Boston College.
Looks like he'll be in the NHL next year. Maybe he'll play with Havlat's line.

RE: Toews signs 3 year contract
I agree about not rushing. I think the extra year away from the NHL really helped improve his overall game. I think the time he took off will help him to hit the NHL in full stride. I expect him & Nicklas Backstrom to be leading Calder candidates.

RE: Toews signs 3 year contract
I do have to agree with you guys. I think it was a good decision for him to wait another year and play college hockey. I only saw him play twice at the University of North Dakota when they played St. Cloud State University (I go to St. Cloud State) and I do have to admit that he is not too bad of a player. I think he will be able to go far because of the fact he played college hockey for an extra year.
