Vokoun Brings Good Public Image

http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/14253

Quote:
The Panthers are going to pay Tomas Vokoun a lot of money to stop pucks, with Vokoun earning an average of $5.7 million over the next four seasons. The goodwill he brings to South Florida is a bonus. In Nashville, Vokoun bought a luxury suite so the children with cancer could attend games throughout the season in a safe environment. After games, Vokoun played host to the children in the locker room and took time to visit and take pictures. Vokoun also recently bought one patient season tickets to Nashville games for the upcoming season. When Vokoun was injured last season, he chose to watch home games in his suite with the children. When he was in the hospital in 2006, the children created cards and had them delivered to his room

Its always good to hear how some athletes aren't just greedy dicks. They get payed so much money and yet few actually try to do something positive with it. I wish Vokoun the best in Florida and I'll be sure to root for him to do well. I hope people start noticing this kindness and start helping others themselves.

From Belfour to Vokoun. A changing of the guard has brought on a serious attitude and image change to Florida.

What a difference!

Thats great when a player is like that.

I know with the Canucks organization, they have a suite like that too. The canucks also go to BC Childrens hospital and Canucks Place (A place where when children are going to die they stay for there last memories) alot... I know that if you want to play for the Canucks organization you dont just work at the rink, You must do voulenteer work, and go to hospitals etc.

I know when my sisters friend was in the hospital, they had to fly here over to BC Childrens hospital in Vancouver because her disease was very serouis, All the Canucks came to the hospital and gave her auto's

I know the Wild do something with a local hospital as well. It's really neat that players do this kind of thing and get out into the community for whatever the reason. I think it shows that they care about the community.

You'll find that every team has some kind of program like this.

Like canucks79 mentioned above, it's mandatory for players to contribute to these programs.

I give a tip of my hat to Vokoun because it is not a team program he is attending due to contractual obligations. It's a program of his, and he took it with him to a new region. Those are the times when a player should get real respect for these actions.

When it's a team program, as opposed to a player's program, it's just public relations doing what they're paid to do.

In Ottawa Wade Redden has had a suite for kids from the local childrens hospital since his first or second season in the league. It is very nice to hear these stories about giving back when so much of the attention athletes get are things going on with players like Micheal Vick, Pac-Man Jones and the Cincinatti Bengals.
