Wild Re-Signs Boogaard

Quote:
Good news for the Wild. Not good news for the Oilers, the Ducks, the Flames or any other Western Conference team that Derek Boogaard has tormented over the last two seasons.

The Wild's behemoth enforcer agreed to terms on a multi-year contract, keeping the fan favorite in Minnesota for the foreseeable future.

Derek's development is a testament to his dedication, discipline and the emphasis he places on team above individual," said Wild President and General Manager, Doug Risebrough. "Through his style of play and his personality he has made himself a valued player and person in the organization."

Had the two sides not come to an agreement, an arbitration hearing would have been held next week. Boogaard's signing leaves defenseman Nick Schultz as the only unsigned restricted free agent.

Boogaard, 25 (6/23/82), skated in 48 games with Minnesota in 2006-07, and collected one assist and led the team with 120 penalty minutes (PIM) for the second consecutive season. He logged a season-high 9:35 of ice time vs. Anaheim on Oct. 27, 2006 and registered an assist in his 100th career NHL game vs. Florida on Feb. 8, 2007. The 6-foot-7, 254-pound forward added one assist and led the Wild with 20 PIM in four playoff matches. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-native has appeared in 113 career NHL games with Minnesota and recorded seven points (2-5=7) and 278 PIM.

Boogaard was originally selected by Minnesota in the seventh round (202nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
