Wings want outdoor game
The Red Wings explored the possibility of hosting an outdoor game at Comerica Park a few years ago but came to the conclusion that it would be too costly and that the stadium's seating configuration wouldn't be optimal for fans. An outdoor game would have to be held at Michigan Stadium or Spartan Stadium, which hosted the 2001 "Cold War" between Michigan and Michigan State.
I think the league should really consider this option. Michigan Stadium is the largest stadium in North America (capacity is about 109,000) and it would be incredible to see that kind of crowd for a hockey game. If they could sell out that game, that would also dispel a lot of rumors about the NHL having attendance problems! Plus, this would show the league that the Wings really ARE Hockey Town!

I think most cities that have the weather to make holding an outdoor game possible would sell out a 100,000 seat stadium. A lot of cities are being rumoured to want an outdoor game and I think that it would be very successful in any northern NHL city including Chicago and Boston despite there current attendance problems. I hope that they do continue these outdoor games it would be a great tradition for the league.

I think it would be interesting to see another outdoor game. It brings interest and fans out to the game and would be really good for the league.

I read a report somewhere that the NHL is seriously considering having an annual "Winter Classic," but I don't know if the two teams would change every year or if it will always include Pittsburgh (because NBC has a crush on Crosby).
