Yashin would surrender captaincy

Quote:
Although Alexei Yashin feels he was singled out unfairly for blame during the New York Islanders' first-round playoff loss to the Buffalo Sabres, he wants to remain rather than have his contract bought out.

If management wants Yashin to surrender his captaincy, it's not a problem, according to agent Marc Gandler.

Yashin has four years worth $26.45 million remaining on his contract. Under the collective bargaining agreement, the Islanders can buy him out for $17.63 million payable in equal monthly installments over the next eight years.
