new NHL record
Colorado's Paul Stastny, son of Peter Stastny, set a new NHL record this weekfor the longest rookie point-scoring streak.
Paul Stastny may not wind up equaling the career scoring marks set by his father. But the Colorado Avalanche rookie now has his own line in the NHL record book.
A first-period assist on Sunday gave the son of Hall of Famer Peter Stastny an 18-game point-scoring streak, breaking Teemu Selanne’s 14-year-old NHL rookie record. One game earlier, he surpassed his father’s franchise record for longest points streak by a rookie. The assist on Sunday also gave Paul 14-straight road games with a point, breaking an NHL mark held by another Stastny, his uncle Marian, who played with Peter and brother Anton with the Quebec Nordiques (the Avalanche’s predecessor) in 1981-82. Paul is 8-18-26 and plus-10 during the record-setting streak.
While Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin has gotten most of the headlines among rookies, Paul Stastny has quietly had a terrific season. His 44 assists are tops among first-year-players, and his 66 points are second.
Peter’s No. 26 was retired by the franchise after Quebec moved to Colorado. Paul began the season wearing No. 62, but switched to No. 26 on Oct. 26 — and scored his first NHL goal that night. Like father, like son.
ONE DREAM, ONE TEAM, NOTHING ELS MATTERS!!!

RE: new NHL record
Thats great for Paul. A records that will stand many years. Just a heads up JM Liles gave Paul #26, And he switched to 4. Liles is a future captain of the Avs. And for Paul , Will he win the Rookie of the Year?

RE: new NHL record
That is great for Stastny. Still don't think it will be enough for him to win the Calder. Malkin will probably get it but Don Cherry was making a pretty good case for Staal winning it. He plays a lot less minutes than Malkin with almost no powerplay time and only has 4 goals less than Malkin. His total points are a lot lower but he leads the NHL in SH goals and Shooting %, I doubt he will win but it looks like Malkin will have a little more competition now than most thought part way through the year.

RE: new NHL record
The two teams are pretty even in talent. I wouldn't say that the pens have a lot more talent than the Avs.
