Devil1The Devils enter tonight's game following a 3-2 victory Saturday evening vs. Buffalo. Saturday's decision gave the club back-to-back wins, and a 3-1-1 mark since the All-Star Break. The team went 8-2-3=19pts in January, its second highest win and point-totals this season (December, 10-4-1).

Overall, New Jersey is 12-2-3 in its last 17 games, and 19-9-5 in its last 33. The Devils' 32 victories, 70 points and .660 points percentage are tops in the Atlantic Division. The club's 127 goals allowed (121 GA + 6 SOL) are the fewest in the Eastern Conference, and 20 fewer than the next team (Ott., 147). New Jersey's 2.24 goals-against average is first in the NHL, and they remain the only East squad in the top nine.

The Devils are now 18-4-4=40pts (.769) through 26 home games, and 14-11-2=30pts (.556) in 27 contests away from the Meadowlands. The club's 18 victories on home ice are the most in the East, while the January 26 game at Florida snapped the team's season-high five-game road winning streak.

New Jersey reached the ten-win mark at the Meadowlands in the fewest number of games in its history (tie, '87-88, 10-1-1 & '97-98, 10-2-0).

Lifetime Series

Tonight's game between the Devils and Rangers marks the sixth of eight meetings between the two teams this season, and the third of four games to be played at the Meadowlands.

New Jersey is 2-2-2 in the 2006-07 season's series, following a 2-0 win January 16, outscoring New York 13-11, while holding a 141-140 edge in shots. Jamie Langenbrunner leads the Devils with 3g-3a-6pts, while Jaromir Jagr has 2g-3a-5pts to lead the Rangers. Martin Brodeur has started all five games for New Jersey, and is 2-2-1, with one shutout, a .929 save percentage and 1.98 goals-against average, while Henrik Lundqvist (3-1-0, .938 save% & 1.72 GAA) and Kevin Weekes (0-1-0, .786 save% & 6.02 GAA) have shared the goaltending duties for the Rangers.

The Devils lead the all-time series 66-58-23, including a 43-25-5 mark in the previous 73 games played here. The remainder of the series is as follows: Feb. 20 at NJ; Feb. 22 at NYR.


New Jersey Devils Injuries and Transactions

For the Devils, defensemen Alex Brooks (fractured foot, suffered Jan. 10 vs. StL., 10 gms missed) and Richard Matvichuk (back), right wing Alexander Mogilny (hip) and left wing Jason Wiemer (knee) are out with long-term injuries. Total man-games lost to injury/illness: 74.

Today, the Devils recalled defenseman Mark Fraser from Lowell (AHL). Yesterday, the club recalled right wing Cam Janssen from Lowell, while re-assigning center Rod Pelley to Lowell. He had been called up by New Jersey on Wednesday.

Devils - Rangers Connections

Devils’ Assistant Coach John MacLean spent the 1998-99, 1999-00 and the beginning of the 2000-01 seasons with the Rangers. He appeared in 161 games overall, amassing 46 goals and 51 assists for 97 points while accumulating 98 penalty minutes.

Rangers’ LW Brendan Shanahan was the Devils’ first-round selection, second overall in the 1987 Entry Draft. He spent four seasons in NJ, from 1987-88 through 1990-91, tallying 88 goals and adding 126 assists for 214 points in 281 games. The Devils were awarded former D Scott Stevens as compensation for Shanahan signing with St. Louis during the summer of 1991.

Hartford Wolf-Pack General Manager/Head Coach Jim Schoenfeld was the fourth coach in Devils’ history, serving from January 26, 1988 through November 6, 1989 guiding the club to a 50-59-15 record in 124 games. He was behind the bench when the Devils’ made their first ever Stanley Cup Playoff appearance and came within one game of the Stanley Cup Finals during the 1987-88 season.

Langenbrunner named NHL's Second Star
Yesterday, Devils' right wing Jamie Langenbrunner was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week for the seven-day period ending February 4. Langenbrunner led all scorers for the week with 2g-5a-7pts in three games as the team gained five of a possible six points. He recorded three assists at Atlanta on Tuesday, 1g-1a-2pts at Philadelphia on Thursday, and 1g-1a-2pts vs. Buffalo on Saturday. Langenbrunner ranks fifth in team scoring with 18g-21a-39pts. He was joined by Toronto's Andrew Raycroft (no. 1 star) and Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom (no. 3) as the week's honorees.
