the Sabres 10-0!!!
This is really impressive! I knew they were good, but never thought they could start with a 10-0 streak! They have 49 goals in these 10 games! What an offensive team!
GSA
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- In the opening seconds of a historic victory, Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller had a serious "uh-oh" moment.
A quirky bounce off the glass gave New York Islanders forward Shawn Bates a chance in front. Miller turned aside the slap shot -- and the other 28 pucks that later sailed his way -- in backstopping Buffalo's 10th straight victory Thursday night, tying the Sabres for an NHL record to open the season.
"That's a little, 'Hello, how ya doing?,"' Miller said. "That was a bit of a wake-up call."
Well, if the rest of the NHL hasn't taken notice of the surging Sabres, they'd better do so quickly.
Maxim Afinogenov set up Ales Kotalik's first-period goal and scored one in the second for Buffalo. Miller did the rest for the Sabres, who tied the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs -- the only other NHL team to jump out 10-0.
"And remember, hit the boards hard!"

RE: the Sabres 10-0!!!
A great start no doubt!
The folks in Toronto aren't going to like this record though because the Leafs got the record when there was no such thing as a shoot out. If I am not mistaken the Sabres have won two of their games out of 10 in a shoot out.

It has been a great start to the season but Wingsfan is right. It's not quite the same as the Leafs.

RE: the Sabres 10-0!!!
Everyone's saying "oh, there should be a comma in there because of the shootout wins. But honestly, I don't think it matters. People will stop complaining if we get more than 11 wins to make up for the shootout victories, which I'm sure we can do.
Everyone just wants to "rain on their parade" as they say. Sabres are doing great, and deserve to set the new record.

RE: the Sabres 10-0!!!
The Sabres are doing great and do have a record but not the record, it doesn't matter how many they win it will be a record in the new NHL with the shootout. Until someone wins 10 in a row without going to shootout it is different than what the Leafs did.

I don't understand why everyone is complaining, a win is a win and that's it. You still get 2 pts.

RE: the Sabres 10-0!!!
The difference is that 5 years ago this would be a 10 game undefeated streak and not a 10 game winning streak. It is still impressive but not the same as what Toronto did. If they get to 16 games that would break the Oilers record of 12-0-3 to start the 84-85 season. The Sabres are already tied with the Leafs for the longest streak before overtime was adopted in 1983.

RE: the Sabres 10-0!!!
This is not 5 yrs ago though, those days are over. Sabres won 10 games in a row. Doesn't matter how they did it. It is still 10 wins and no losses, hence 10 game winning streak.

But what he is saying is, in the old system, they wouldn't have 10 wins and 0 losses, they would be 7-0-3 which is just a 10 game undefeated streak and techinically isn't the same thing. Not to knock that though, as it is still impressive, but one can argue it's not as hard to attain wins as when the Leafs did it. That aside, I still think the Sabres have had an incredible start to their season and what they have done so far isn't to be seen as easy or a fluke. Ultimately though, I don't think it's really fair to compare stats of the old NHL to the new, it's a significantly diffrent game being played now and stat comparisons with the older rules are much more complicated than just 'look-and-see'.

Oh, I understand what is being said, but like you said it's hard to compare now to then. oh well, that being said, the Sabres are still of to a sensational start.
